Biography

One of the most recognisable names and faces in women’s rugby, Emily Scarratt made her debut for Lightning in January 2019 against Worcester Valkyries – some 11 years after she made her Red Roses debut way back in 2008.

Scarratt has won a remarkable 11 Six Nations titles and played a key role in the 2014 Rugby World Cup triumph when she was the tournament’s top point scorer. Her participation in the 2025 edition saw her become the first woman to appear in five Rugby World Cups.

Amongst her multiple accolades is the 2019 World Rugby’s Women’s Player of the Year and she also captained Team GB Sevens at the Rio Olympics, and won a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Scarratt reached the 50-appearance milestone for Lightning during the 2024/25 season – a campaign in which she also provided support in a coaching capacity along with many media commitments; most prominently for The Good, The Scaz and The Rugby podcast she co-hosts, and punditry work for TNT Sports.
