Barbarians pick Lightning prop Belisle for Allianz Park clash with Wales

Loughborough Lightning prop Christine Belisle has been included in the first tranche of players who will feature for Barbarians Women against Wales at Allianz Stadium later this month.

The former Scotland international, who played her final game for Lightning against Leicester Tigers last weekend, will be joined by the likes of New Zealand star Ruby Tui for the match on Saturday 27 June. 

The Lightning connection runs further as former player Sarah Hunter (#027), now in the Red Roses coaching set-up, coaches the Barbarians alongside Susie Appleby, and another former Lightning player, Jenny Maxwell (#007), is amongst the confirmed players.

Also named in the squad so far are Bryony Cleall, Lagi Tuima and Poppy Leitch (England), Laura Delgado (Spain), Caity Mattinson (Scotland), Charlie Jacobi (USA), Claudia Pena (Spain), Carys Phillips (Wales),  Ilaria Arrighetti (Italy), Lori Cramer and Emily Chancellor (Australia).

Barbarian F.C Women’s lead Fiona Stockley said: “It is great to be able to name so many experienced international players in this latest squad announcement.

“The lure of the Barbarians is second to none and we have players from across the globe who are excited to wear the famous black and white jersey at Allianz and take on Wales in just under three weeks.

“We would like to thank all the clubs and Unions who we have worked with on selecting this players and we look forward to announcing the final squad next week.”

The Barbarians Women’s fixture kicks off at 5pm at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 27 June, following on from the Barbarians Men’s fixture against Wales which takes place at 2pm.
