Canada will kick off their WXV Global Series with six Loughborough Lightning players in their matchday squad to face Scotland this weekend.
Fancy Bermudez earns her 20th cap from the right wing at The Hive Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday (kick-off: 4:10pm), and is joined by three new Lightning signings in the run-out side.
Flo Symonds makes her 19th senior international appearance from outside centre, while hooker Kiki Idowu and lock Rachel Smith move to four and seven caps respectively.
Two more players who will team up with Lightning for the first time after the WXV Global Series are set to involved on Saturday too, as prop Brooke Rempel awaits her chance to add to her two Canada outings, after being named amongst the replacements alongside 21-cap back row, Pamphinette Buisa.
Lightning Head Coach Nathan Smith takes Lightning’s involvement to seven as he oversees the first game of his second period of coaching secondment with the Canucks.
Head Coach of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team, Kevin Rouet, said: “We had a good week of preparation in Ireland last week which has carried over as we get ready for Scotland on Saturday,” said Rouet. “As I have mentioned before, these games are very important for us to be able to give younger players experience at the international level while also making sure we field a team that gives us the best chance to win. It’s the first match of WXV for both teams, it should be a great game.”
