Hibbert-Jones named amongst five Lightning players in Red Roses squad

Loughborough Lightning captain Daisy Hibbert-Jones has been called up into the Red Roses squad for their WXV Global Series matches in North America.

The versatile back row, who has appeared in both of Lightning’s JAECOO Next Gen Cup games so far this season, joins clubmates Lilli Ives Campion, Sadia Kabeya, Helena Rowland and Haineala Lutui as part of the 32-player group.

John Mitchell’s side are set to renew their Test series with Canada in Toronto on Friday 16 October, before a third Test with Kévin Rouet’s team in Ottawa a week later. They will end the tour in New Jersey against USA.

The Red Roses will spend two days training at Allianz Stadium prior to travelling to Toronto on Thursday.

Mitchell said: “Our last two Tests against Canada and New Zealand have been humdingers that could have gone either way; they were hugely important to our development towards 2029. Playing quality opposition and learning to adapt under pressure will help us raise our level and improve our game.

“The 32 players travelling to North America have a great opportunity to elevate our connections as a squad because playing away from home requires togetherness. We have shown a real hunger to compete and improve, and we’re excited to rip into our preparations and continue our rivalry with Canada in Toronto.”
